Body Work Power (2020-2022)
Body Work Power is a multidiscplinary research wich combines photography, video, installation and archives. Through this project I wanted to investigate the transmission and the becoming of ancient manual practices in the field of textile handcrafts, in which numerous communities of women have been formed over time. In this context, I made a short film in one of the last textile workshops in Italy still using ancient weaving techniques, which today only counts two workers.
I also initiated a collection of vernacular photographs documenting the unrepresented life and work of women workers, weavers and embroiderers in Umbria, which is my native region. By being open and participatory, I conceive the archive itseilf as a space for transmission.
Finally, I self-edited a book and wrote some critical texts where I show how the concept of texture*, that in French is employed both in the visual and textile fields, can represent a tool to understand the power relations that regulate the circulation and the consumption of images.
